THE UNEP NATIONALLY DETERMINED CONTRIBUTIONS  (NDC) ACTION PROJECT: ENABLING REALISATION OF SOCIOECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT PRIORITIES IN GHANA THROUGH CLIMATE CHANGE

Ghana contributes between 0.05–0.13% of global emissions. A negligible amount by all accounts. But just as is the case with the rest of the continent, this country stands out for its vulnerability. The Notre Dame Vulnerability index rates Ghana as highly vulnerable, with a low readiness score. The country is ranked the 68th most vulnerable and 81st least ready country. Increasing community incomes stands out as the core of resilience building.

Maiden solar dryers project in Ghana

The Ebapreneur Solutions Ghana volunteers under the Ecosystem based adaptation for food  security assembly (EBAFOSA) installed a locally manufactured solar dryer at Akortiekrom  community. Akortiekrom is a predominant farming community in Birim south District, Eastern  region of Ghana.

TRAINING IN ADOPTION OF AFFORDABLE & EFFICIENT SOLAR DRYERS TO AVERT EFFECTS OF POST HARVEST LOSSES: THE CASE OF GHANA

About 52 % of the labour force in Ghana is engaged in agriculture, 29 % in services and 19 % in industry. Approximately 39 % of the farm labour force is women. Agriculture contributes to 54% of Ghana’s GDP, and accounts for over 40 % of export earnings, while at the same time providing over 90 % of the food needs of the country.

Offshoots from EBAFOSA Ghana National Branch Launch

Ghana is among countries that have ratified the Paris Climate Change agreement turning their determination to act against climate change into globally accountable commitments. Through these commitments, Ghana hopes to reduce its emissions by 15 – 45% by 2030.
