INTEGRATING CLIMATE ACTION SOLUTIONS INTO FOOD SYSTEMS IN NIGERIA TO INFORM COHERENT PR O-SDGs POLICY IMPLEMENTATION

As part of strengthening UN reforms and delivery as one, UNEP has been engaging with the United Nations Country Teams (UNCT) in implementing solutions on Sustainable and Inclusive Growth and Development, and outcomes on Environmental Sustainability & Food Security.

With the nexus challenges of food insecurity, poverty, high youth unemployment, low labor productivity, energy poverty, environmental degradation and climate change - which compounds these challenges – escalating across Africa, Africa’s socioeconomic progress in actualizing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and Agenda 2063 is behind schedule.

Africa continues to face challenges, despite the great strides it has taken to alleviate poverty and improve lives. The continent still has a long way to go to achieve sustainable development. Environment is at the heart of all this development and as such, must be taken into account in the development agenda of the continent in implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGS) and the Paris Agreement.

How does EBAFOSA work? The EBAFOSA approach is based on section 5 of the Paris Agreement and goal 17 of the Sustainable development Goals which calls for bringing multiple stakeholders to work in complementary partnerships to bridge implementation gaps at policy & operational level in order to unlock leading socioeconomic priorities. Operationally, EBAFOSA simply provides an integrative framework for rallying both state and non-state actors for climate actions voluntarily and coherently.
